Roy joined London Fire Brigade in 1978. 32 years of service later, he retired as London’s longest serving deputy commissioner. In that time he played an instrumental part in transforming the Brigade in to the sophisticated & modern service that it is today. He was Director of Operations during the terrorist attacks of July 7th 2005. In 2002 Her Majesty the Queen awarded him the prestigious Queens Fire Service Medal (QFSM) for services to the Fire & Rescue Services. In 2006 Roy was again recognised by her Majesty with the appointment as Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the people of London. Throughout his service life Roy served on a number of industry bodies. He has collaborated with his peers in Fire Services around the world and is passionate about the early adoption of new technology to improve fire fighter safety and drive continuous improvement to the effectiveness of the Service. Roy has maintained a global network of colleagues in the Fire Sector spanning equipment manufacturers, academia and emergency services officers across 6 continents. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers and has served the organisation in a number of roles, most notably as President in 2013. Roy serves as a specialist consultant to a range of private sector clients in the field of emergency response strategy, planning and execution. His passion to bring new technology to the sector led him to create Clarita Solutions, which he now Chairs. Roy will be speaking about recent advances in molecular nanotechnology and its application and effectiveness as an active fire suppression solution.
